Success is waking up in the morning and feeling excited to go to work each and every day. The fact that I was able to create a job out of something that I have always been passionate about doing is the greatest success to me.
My grandmother, Ann Hand, is one of my greatest inspirations. She started her jewelry business at age 50 after never having a typical career (she stayed at home and raised 5 children) and is still working to this day (she's 87). She turned her hobby of jewelry making into a storied career and has made quite a name for herself. She has had no proper business training, but instead followed her intuition and is still prospering to this day.
Juggling it all.
I would like to leave an indelible mark on my community through my philanthropic endeavors and hope that my children will continue that legacy through their own non-profit work as well. Currently I serve on the board of Imagination Stage (a local arts organization) and was a former board member of The Washington Ballet. I believe the arts is one of the most beautiful ways we as humans can connect to one another and I hope that my work through these various organizations can help foster stronger relationships in my community.
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Nothing makes me happier and more fulfilled than by giving back and making other people happy.
