My ultimate goal in whatever it is that I am doing is to always solve a human issue or aid in the resolution of it. If my work does not impact my communities and humans in positive way, I truly have no interest in doing it. Thus, I want my legacy to be just that. In my current line of duty, much of my focus and drive is in elevating Creators/talent with diverse voices and stories – in this way I not only want to help further their careers but I want to work towards a more advanced economy where entrepreneurs, creators, independent talent and non-traditional business owners are able to succeed with longevity. My work encompasses digital media, tech and marketing and I truly believe that tech companies and digital publishers will play major roles in evolving what that vision will fruition into and I want to aid in that as much as possible.
The largest professional and personal obstacles for me has definitely, without a doubt, been my overcoming of pervasive poverty to get to where I am today. Although I’m not where I ultimately want to be or have yet accomplished many of the goals that I want to accomplish, when I look back and re-examine the obstacles I had to overcome as a child in order to survive, let alone achieve what I have, it feels both professional and personal. I come from essentially nothing, my parents are immigrants, my upbringing was characterized by family addiction, housing instability and threat of constant homelessness. Thus, for me to make it over the hill of simply high school, to higher education and to be in rooms with folks from a completely different world than mine to working with them, feels like an accomplishment in itself.
At the moment, it’s my next problem to solve! Personally, my next problem to solve is kickstarting generational wealth as someone who has been the first in many things within my family sphere. Career wise, it’s aiding the company I work for to further develop our creator program as well as seeing what other opportunities are out there that truly are diving into the development of creator/independent entrepreneur economy!
When it comes to the work that I do, it must make people feel seen, heard, that they matter, safe, or keep them informed!
