Do you ever find that there are things about you people misunderstand? If so, what are they?

I feel as though people misunderstand my quietness. Growing up I have always been a shy person and it takes time for me to open up around new people. Sometimes when people meet me they mistake this for not being very nice, when in reality I’d love to talk. I would love to get to know them. There’s something always holding me back- worse than cats got your tongue. Im worried what they’ll think, what I’ll say, how I’ll say it. I overthink it even after the experience. I’d love to flow and show them who I am. It just isn’t easy for me.

Tell us about someone that inspires you.

Zelda Fitzgerald. Writer, dancer, painter, flapper overall woman badass. She was the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Many people don’t know much about her or know if her accomplishments. I know I didn’t. But since learning of her, her history has engulfed me. She was such a powerful woman! She didn’t just walk- she ran to the beat of her own drum and never held back. Over her lifetime and still in the present day, Zelda is very misunderstood. I imagine her being someone who didn’t listen to others and always stayed true to herself. She is remembered as the “first flapper”. I think that says a lot about her.

What was the hardest decision you ever had to make?

The hardest decision I ever made is one I have made recently this year. That decision was to not have a relationship with my mother. Growing up in a toxic environment, I always promised myself one day I would get out. One day I would run my life and forget the heartache- then I’d never look back. Often times it’s felt as though all I have had is myself. I have always had my back and I always would. Therefore, I promised myself I would do what is right for me.

What keeps you awake at night?

I’d say the number one keeping me awake at night are the “what if’s”. I am a huge overthinker. I overthink until I can no longer think the situation any worse. What will happen tomorrow, what happened today and what happened 3 years ago. I’m scared of what may happen because the future is so unknown.
