A cup of tea solves everything!
My Dad told me this when I was younger and it has always stuck in my mind - "Aim for the stars, and if you do not reach them this time you will get caught by the clouds'.
I am a marine scientist working as a Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth (U.K.).
My research focusses on understanding the different sources of plastic pollution into the marine environment.
Our research has helped influence the ban of microbeads in cosmetics internationally, where we found up to 3 million plastic beads could be in one facial scrub bottle. We also discovered that biodegradable bags could still hold a full bag of shopping after being in the ocean for 3 years. Further research we did found that 700,000 plastic fibres could potentially come off your clothes after a typical wash in a washing machine and we have done work testing solutions.
More recently our research found the highest reported microplastics – near the top of Mt. Everest!
Currently, I am an expedition scientist on the National Geographic “Sea to Source: Ganges” expedition, investigating plastic pollution in a major river system.
