What are three traits you are proud to possess?

3 traits that I am proud to say I possess are grit, compassion, and authenticity. Grit has allowed me to have perseverance and passion for my short- and long-term goals, despite the obstacles and nay-sayers along my journey. My grit is multi-faceted, with every aspect aiding me in different ways. My grit provides me courage to be my biggest cheerleader and motivator when no one else is encouraging or supportive of my aspirations. My grit provides me the endurance to follow through on my long-term goals, no matter how invisible the finish line may be. I am proud to possess compassion, because I have seen first hand how my patient's health outcomes can be drastically improved when they can feel and see that I have true concern for their well being. Lastly, as I mature into the woman I am, I am grateful I possess authenticity. In a world dominated by social media, many people put up a persona that is not real, and it shows. It is important to me that others trust in me, both as a provider and person, because that translates to my passion and commitment for the things I value, even when others do not agree or want to hear it. These are qualities that I am proud of and continue to work on to develop in order to continue growing as the woman I am today.

What do you want to be known for?

I want to be known for the positive changes I made for my family and my community. I am passionate about helping empower under-represented minority communities of color, in particular women, to reach their full potential in spite of the challenges we face before we are even conceived. I want to be known as a trailblazer who pulled my women's of color up and worked along side them to earn "seats at the table" as well as create our "own tables" that will advocate for our communities. I want to be known for changing the status quo of what a woman of color can achieve, and I want to empower little girls to have big dreams and not be stifled by what society expects they will become. I want to be known for leaving this world a better place for women of color.

What is your secret to staying motivated?

My secret to my motivation depends on what aspect of life I need motivation in. A large part of my motivation stems from my family and community. If it comes to my academics or taking on leadership roles and I need motivation, I think of them and the bigger picture of the goals I am trying to achieve for them and to elevate them. If it is on a more personal level, I introspect and try to figure out why I am not feeling motivated and focus on the things I have control over changing, and try to not give too much energy to the things beyond my control. Having small short-term goals helps keep me motivated because it breaks up something that may seem unattainable into small chunks that are more digestible and achievable.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

People would be surprised of my upbringing, if they met me as the woman I am today. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, during the tumultuous LA Riot times. My primary and secondary school experience involved attending underperforming schools that were performing so poorly they were taken over by the state. Gangs, fights, and weapons were a normal part of my day. While in high school, due to numerous issues at home, I was forced to drop out of high school and left my home at the age of 16. Although I was a child, I had big dreams and aspirations of becoming a doctor, a dream that helped me persevere the obstacles I faced along the way. I believe in taking advantage to any and all opportunities presented, and I am so thankful I jumped at the offer to work at a dental office as a teen doing sterilization and answering phones and making appointment, because the rest is history. I obtained my Registered Dental Assisting license at the age of 17, worked full-time and put myself through school, and the rest is history!

What would you love to accomplish or do more of?

I would love to personally accomplish being a successful businesswoman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. I want to be able to own my own businesses and help support other women of color to do the same. I want to mentor young girls and women to help them create dreams and pathways to achieve them. I want to learn more in all of these facets so that I can better help others who will come after me.
