The last time I took a risk at work, I actually quit my jobs and dove head first into starting my own company. Despite loving the work I was doing, I was unhappy with my trajectory and felt that I could be doing so much more to fulfill myself and others on my journey. Although it seemed like a rash decision with very little preparation for the future, I knew in my heart that it was the best decision I could have made and the timing was just right as things started to fall into place once I made space in my life for the new journey. Today, I couldn't be happier with where I am and what we are building!
Every day, I am inspired by my younger brother, Pauly. He has always been an athlete superstar, but lately, he's grow into an enlightened young man that shares his positivity and wisdom everywhere he goes. Even though we grew up in the same house, we had vastly different experiences growing up - he was the up-and-coming motocross star and I was the academic, he crashed his bike and became paralyzed and I went back to school to work on a PhD to find ways to help him walk again. We have learned so much from each other over the years, but what stands out to me the most is his ability to constantly see the silver lining in every situation and find forgiveness for those who have done him wrong. When I feel like I am stuck and can't find love to give others, I turn to him and use him as a guiding light during my own struggles.
One piece of advice that I disagree with is that you have to go to school to get a good job. In fact, I went to school, and three degrees later, I had a tough time finding a good job and was told I was overqualified for all the positions I was interested in - how frustrating - go to school, get a good job, they said. Unfortunately, not the case for me, hence starting my own company. However, I will say that through school, I developed the foundation, knowledge base and skillset that is allowing me to do what I do today and stand up as an innovator and industry leader. The other advantage was that I did not follow a conventional path, but instead I've had a meandering journey where I've been fortunate enough to learn from various leaders and experts that have greatly expanded my expertise and my ability to think outside the box, and for that, I am grateful every day.
I am most grateful for my journey - for the struggles and successes that have lead me to this point. I am grateful that I've faced adversity and challenge on my path because it's helped me to accept change and adapt as things often don't go as planned. As much as life is beautiful, it is also tough, and I'm glad I've been able to see both sides of life.
To always stay curious - there is always something new to learn and a new adventure awaiting.
