What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

My mother always said to me: when a door opens, walk in, look around, if you like what you see, keep going. If you don't, walk back out. It gave me the courage and the inspiration to pay attention and possess my power to change course whenever I felt that there was a misalignment between me and the context I found myself in.
